Head Injury and Aging Online Survey by Mount Sinai’s Brain Injury Research Center

We are reaching out about an opportunity for research participation. Our study is about head injury and aging

This research is being conducted by Mount Sinai’s Brain Injury Research Center in New York.

The study involves completing an anonymous online survey of 20-30 minutes

If this may be of interest to you, please read the information below. We have also attached our study flyer and research information sheet to this e-mail.

Why are we doing this research?

The goal of this study is to learn what people with head injuries know about dementia, what can raise or lower the risk for dementia, and what they know about healthy aging and brain health. We also want to understand how motivated people are to stay healthy as they age. This study does not provide medical evaluation or diagnosis.

What is involved in the research?

You will be asked to complete an anonymous online survey of 20-30 minutes. This survey will ask basic personal information, health history, history of head injuries, knowledge of dementia and dementia risk factors, knowledge of brain health and healthy aging, and motivation to engage in healthy lifestyles.

Who can take part in the research?

  • You may be eligible if you:
  • Are 18 years of age or older.
  • Have experienced one more blows to the head, for example, from a car crash, being hit by an object, a fall, playing sports, physical abuse, a fight or attack, during military services or training, or from any other cause. Also known as a head injury, a knock to the head, a concussion, or a traumatic brain injury (“TBI”).
  • You do not have to lose consciousness or be ‘knocked out’ to have had a head injury.
  • Sometimes people who have had a head injury may feel dazed and confused for a period of time or feel like they are ‘seeing stars’.
  • If you were in an environment with high exposure to blows to the head (including playing contact sports, military service, intimate partner violence), you are eligible for the study.
  • You do not need to have sought medical attention or received a diagnosis from a medical health professional to be eligible for this study.
  • If you are unsure if you have had a head injury, contact us to find out if you qualify (see contact details below).
  • Reside in the U.S.  This includes all U.S. territories (Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, and American Samoa).
  • Speak and understand English.

Thank you for considering our research study. Research participation helps us to advance understanding of head injury outcomes and hopefully improve the lives of those living with head injury and their families.
