Policy-Engaged Research Workshop Series: Session 1

Brain injury research informs decisions across science, clinical care, technology development, social services, and public systems. Whether your work focuses on cells, circuits, behavior, data, devices, clinical care, rehabilitation, or health systems, your expertise provides a valuable foundation for that impact.

About this event

Join us for an interactive workshop series that will help CBIRD faculty and trainees identify practical opportunities to strengthen the significance, impact, and relevance of their science. All Ohio State investigators and trainees are welcome. No prior policy experience is required.

Our first session will take place Wednesday, October 7, 2026 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. Hamilton Hall, IHSC Room 240. Lunch is provided.

This will be an interactive working session rather than a traditional lecture. Please bring a current research question, project, or early-stage idea. By the end of the session, you should have a clearer understanding of:

  • Where policy and systems considerations intersect with your work.
  • Who could use, influence, or benefit from your research.
  • Which voices and areas of expertise may be missing from your team.
  • How to frame your work for audiences beyond your immediate discipline.
  • What steps could move your research toward greater public impact.

Faculty are encouraged to bring a trainee or team member. Trainees may also register independently and use the session to explore how policy engagement can strengthen their research, communication, and career development.
